Arrival/Departure Information
Arrival/Check-in on July 29th
All students will need to check-in on July 29th. Check-in will begin at 8:45AM and orientation will begin at 9:00AM on July 29th. Registered participants will be provided detailed driving and parking directions upon the close of registration.
Departure/Check-out on August 3rd
The BFI will culminate with a camp tournament on Saturday, August 3rd with awards for participants in elimination rounds, as well as scholarships for top performing students. Upon the close of registration, students will be provided with details about the institute's closing assembly. Parents are encouraged to attend this celebration of their student's work at the Beehive Forensics Institute.
Meal Plans and Parking
Parking
Students wishing to park their vehicle on campus will be required to purchase a parking permit from the University of Utah, utilizing their online parking permit system available by clicking here. Parking on campus is not managed by the BFI and the BFI can assume no responsibility for tickets or damages incurred while parking on campus.
Meal Plans
Meal plans will not be provided, but students will have access to multiple dining options covering most dietary needs. These on campus dining establishments accept both cash and credit card. The typical meal cost is approximately $8-$10/day.
Daily Schedule
Students will check-in each day at 8:45AM, with classes beginning at 9:00AM. Classes and practice debates will occur throughout the day and activities will conclude promptly at 7:00PM each day. Students who will need to arrive late or leave early will need to provide appropriate documenation to the BFI Director, Jeannie Hunt.
Preparing for Camp
As you prepare for camp, these are some items you should consider bringing with you each day: notebook, pens, water bottle, sunscreen, meal money, athletic shoes – the campus is big, there will be ample walking. Although a laptop is not required, it is HIGHLY recommended (students without laptops will have access to several computer labs on campus). We strongly encourage you to bring a laptop or tablet, if possible. You may also consider bringing a few of your own research materials.

Rules
The Beehive Forensics Institute (“BFI”) is made possible by the willingness of the University of Utah (“the University”) to allow us to use the campus facilities. In order for this relationship to continue, students must abide by all campus, institute, and computer network policies. Students who violate any of the rules described below will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion.
Students who engage in any of the behavior described in section III.A of the University Student code will be subject to expulsion from the BFI. These behaviors include, but are not limited to:
- Disruption of teaching, research, administration, or other University activities
- Physical or verbal assault, sexual harassment, hazing, threats, intimidation, coercion, or other behaviors which threatens or endangers the health or safety of others
- Attempted or actual theft, damage, or misuse of University property
- Sale or distribution of information representing the work products of the BFI or the University for personal financial gain
- Unauthorized or improper use of University property, equipment, facilities, or resources, including unauthorized entry into any University room or building
- Possession or use on University ground of firearms, weapons, or explosives
- Use, possession or distribution of alcohol, narcotics, or controlled substances
- Use, possession or distribution tobacco products
- Violation of published University policies, rules, or regulations
- Violation of federal, state, or local civil or criminal laws on University premises or while participating in University activities, or on premises over which the University has supervisory responsibility pursuant to state statute or local ordinance
Students must follow all instructions from camp faculty, staff, and judges at all times. In addition, students must abide by the administrative policies of the camp, which include:
- Students must follow all instructions from camp faculty, staff, and judges.
- Students must complete all assignments in a timely fashion and by the due dates established by the workshop faculty and staff.
- Students’ actions must contribute to a productive learning environment free from racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination.
- Students must arrive on time for all camp activities and must not leave the camp at any time without informing BFI faculty.
- Students must attend all camp activities. In the event of a medical or health problem, students should contact the Student Life and Residence Hall Coordinator immediately.
- Students must share any and all evidence and other materials with all members of the workshop.
- Students must abide by additional rules established by the Institute Directors necessary to the efficient operation of the workshop.
Students who use the campus’ wireless or wired computer network are subject to the campus’ policies on computer use. Please limit your use of computer networks to camp-related research and activities. The University prohibits using their network in a way that violates federal, state, and local laws. See the University Network Acceptable Use Policy.
Students are solely responsible for their personal property in the room and building. The BFI assumes no responsibility or liability whatsoever for any loss, destruction, or damage to personal property.
